DJ Session

Few years back (before I left Poland) I used to be a world famous DJ... rewind... all right, few people knew I was playing turntables a little bit :) It's nice to have a chance from time to time to get back to it and mix few black records. Take a look at some shoots from the last night DJ session.

Btw, I'm still testing new Sigma lens... I'll try to write short review next week :)

New baby has arrived!

And the winner is… Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM

Yup, the brand new lens has been delivered just a couple hours ago. Why Sigma 10-20mm? Sigma has range of focal lengths which suits best my needs, good light (it’s not 2.8 but still fixed 3.5 is not too bad) and HSM system. I’ve also read many reviews, tests, opinions and everywhere Sigma had high ratings. It’s a bit more expensive than an older brother (Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6) but has better light and as far as I know few things were improved.

I haven’t had a chance to test it yet. I’m waiting for the weekend and the Festival of World Cultures where hopefully I’ll take loads of good shoots :-)

So this is also a qucik reminder not to miss this weekend in Dun Laoghaire!

Festival of World Cultures

Be aware that Festiwal of World Cultures is coming earlier this year and will take place in Dun Laoghaire next weekend which is 23rd to 25th of July. As far as I remember it was late August last year. I know I’ve had bought my camera just a couple days before, so that weekend was the first test of my skills, which I didn’t have at all :-) I can only say I took more than 200 photos that day and today I was able to choose just 4 decent ones to show you. The good thing is I can see a huge difference between photos I took that weekend and photos I take now. Well, it would be a bad sign if I couldn’t – he?

Anyway it’s a great occasion for everybody to go there for a day or two, listen to a live music, taste some great food from around the world, see performances like capoeira or bellydancing, take loads of photos and get drunk :-) The last two things I’m going to do for sure so I’ll update my blog after next Sunday.

Hopefully the weather will be decent at least. Keep the fingers crossed and visit the Festival of World Cultures website for more info.

Wide angle lens

It’s a shame to admit but I don’t have a proper wide angle lens. Yes, I do have a kit one which is 18-55 mm and a universal range lens 24-70 mm but in lots of situations it’s just not enough. Anyway it’s the decision time! I hope I’ll chose wisely and maybe some of you’ll find my way of thinking helpful in making your own choices.

I already had a closer look what’s available, read some reviews and asked people but still haven’t made up my mind. The choice is even harder because there’s a variety of brands and models in wide angle lenses class. I’m looking for something from 20-24 mm (my main lens is 24-70 mm) and of course the wider the better. Price I’d say is 700 euro max. Initial selection gave me the following list of lenses...

Tokina AT-X 124 PRO DX II AF 12-24 mm f/4

Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX AF 11-16 mm f/2.8

Sigma EX DC HSM 10-20 mm f/3.5

Sigma EX DC HSM 10-20 mm f/4-5.6

Tamron SP AF Di II LD Aspherical (IF) 10-24 mm f/3.5-4.5

All of these lenses are from 550 to 650 euro. All prices are from Dublin stores.

As soon as I decide and buy it I’ll share this happy moment with you. I’ll also write a bit more about each of these lenses and explain my decision. Stay tuned!

Raining in Dublin...

...so the best way to dry your shoes is to put them out of the window.

Backyards

New project called "Backyards" has arrived. There's plenty of places like this in Dublin and I'd say even more in my hometown Kraków. Dark, dirty and ugly but interesting and atmospheric. First four photos on my blog and more coming soon. Also new section will be created on my Flickr in a couple of days.

Blog stats

It's quite odd that blogspot doesn't offer any kind of stats tool. Yes, I'm able to see who's following my blog but it's definitely not the same. But here's the Google Analytics to help! It's really easy to setup and use and has enormous amount of stats, graphs, filters etc. Essential tool for all bloggers or web admins!

Well, it's my first post here. Hope you'll enjoy my lame photos and notes full of typos and grammar mistakes ;-)
